DVL softball race is on

With the first week of the Desert Valley League play in the books, hundreds of fans already know there is no clear cut favorite to win the league this season.

In the past week, we’ve seen a 100-plus fans at the LQ-PS game, more than 300 reported at the first Indio-PD game and close to that again on Friday.

Sure, five-time defending champ La Quinta took care of a young Palm Springs, but the Blackhawks need to come together as a team and unite after the season loss of reigning league MVP Thalia Ortiz who is out with a torn ACL. Ortiz was there cheering on her  teammates, but the Blackhawks need to adjust in a hurry with spring break on the horizon.

Also, look to the Indio-Palm Desert matchup. They split already. Indio has a new coach and the Rajahs are adjusting. Palm Desert is also a much imprived squad with a large group of seniors looking to make some noise.

Throw an always dangerous Coachella Valley into the mix and it is on as they say.

Cathedral City is also a team to watch with some big-time hitters.

With a week to go and two more games before spring break, look for more moves. After vacation is complete, expect a race to the end.
