The first week of October brings new life to many of our high school teams — the league season is in full swing. However, the CIF polls indicate that there has been little movement. Local teams listed in the latest polls are status quo.
In volleyball, it’s No. 7 Palm Desert and No. 8 Palm Springs in Div. II. Still no sign of Xavier Prep.
That will change this week as Palm Desert In Div. 4, Shadow Hills continues to be the highest-ranked team in the desert, standing at No. 4.
In Div. 5, West Shores is No. 6 and Marywood Palm Valley is No. 8.
The water polo poll continues to be dominated by the DVL in Div. 6.
La Quinta remains at No. 4, Palm Desert at No. 5 and Palm Springs is No. 6.
In cross country, it’s just Xavier boys and girls both at No. 3 in Div. 5.
There’s a few big games on the schedule this week, so we’ll see you out there.
Check out these volleyball games: Palm Desert at Palm Springs Tuesday and Palm Desert at Xavier on Thursday. In the Saints’ home game, half of the proceeds at the gdoor will be donated to the local chapter of the American Cancer Society to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Top Tuesday volleyball games are Desert Christian at Desert Chapel in the Victory League rivalry match and Palm Desert at Palm Springs.
On Oct. 4, the first DVL water polo matches are contested at 3:15 p.m. and at 6 p.m., Xavier hosts Palm Desert in volleyball.
