Form holds for La Quinta football

There were certainly no surprises for the La Quinta Blackhawks Friday night in their 52-0 Desert Valley League win over Coachella Valley. Coachella Valley played hard throughout the game, but the Arabs were just outmanned by La Quinta. The Arabs know they have chances to win games later in the season against Indio and maybe Cathedral City. But they can’t compete with La Quinta right now.

As for the Blahawks, it was a routine victory but it also held form for the team as it searches for a CIF-SS playoff berth and a DVL title. The Blackhawks were heavily favored to beat Indio and Coachella Valley and beat those teams by a combined 115-0. But in the next three weeks the Blackhawks must face Palm Springs and Palm Desert, each schools expected eto give the Blackhawks much more trouble.

It has beena roller coaster for the Blackhawks this year. 0-5 in non-league play and hammered but some much better and larger schools, the Blackhawks have now routed two consecutive opponents. But the season will be about how La Quinta handles the Palm Springs and Palm Desert games, as has been the case for most of the last decade.

Could the Blackhawks lose five straight games to start the season and then win five straight to end the regular season? The team that beat Coachella Valley Friday night had plenty of confidence and with the exception of a second quarter full of penalties played very well.

Let’s see which way the roller coaster moved next Friday.
