LQ-CC football a study in coming back from a loss

It was interesting to talk to coaches on both sides of the football Friday night after La Quinta beat Cathedral City63-10 at La Quinta High School.

The La Quinta staff was happy to see how their kids rallied from a difficult and damaging loss to Palm Springs last week, a loss that likely gave the Desert Valley League title to Palm Springs.

The Cathedral City coaching staff, on the other hand, was disappointed to see how their team had responded all week to an overtime loss last week to Coachella Valley, a team the Lions and their fans certainly felt they should have beaten. A win over Coachella Valley last week would have virtually clinched a playoff berth for the Lions. Now the Lions need some help to make the playoffs, starting perhaps with an upset win next week over rival Palm Springs.

Speaking of rivalry games, the Blackhawks may have their hands full with their Flag Game against Palm Desert at Palm Desert next week. Both teams scored 63 points in lopsided wins Friday night. Palm Desert may need the game more than La Quinta at the moment, but in a rivalry game, those kinds of things somehow don’t mean a whole lot.

As for Friday, La Quinta used last weeks loss as a way to get hyped for the Cathedral City game. The Lions, on the other hand, didn’t recover from a tough loss last week. It was an interesting stury in how different teamsreact to simliar losses.
