Football: Desert alumni college football update

Here’s how former high school players from the desert performed for their respective college teams over the weekend.


Nu’uvali Fa’apito, Colorado State, La Quinta: The backup redshirt freshman linebacker had two tackle and recovered a fumble in a 42-27 victory over Hawaii on Saturday.

Greg Latta, Purdue, College of the Desert/Palm Desert: The backup junior defensive end recorded two tackles in a 44-28 loss to Minnesota on Saturday.

Dontrell Onuoha, San Diego State, La Quinta: The sophomore defensive end didn’t play in a 24-13 victory over UNLV on Saturday.

D.J. Alexander, Oregon State, Palm Desert: The starting sophomore linebacker had two tackles and forced the first fumble of his career in a 20-17 loss to Washington on Saturday.

Trent Wilder, UNLV, College of the Desert/Palm Springs: The backup senior defensive tackle had one tackle and recovered a fumble in a 24-13 loss to San Diego State on Saturday.

Other former high school players who are on FBS teams include BYU freshman cornerback Trevor Bateman (Palm Desert), USC freshman left guard Erick Jepsen (La Quinta), Utah State defensive lineman Tryn Mesarch (Palm Desert), Boise State freshman wide receiver Taylor Pope (La Quinta) and Colorado State freshman wide receiver Jordan White (Palm Springs).


Lars Hanson, Sacramento State, Palm Desert: The redshirt freshman started at left tackle in a 35-29 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday.

Other former high school players who are on FCS teams include UC Davis freshman offensive lineman Armando Ceja-Lua (Xavier Prep), Missouri State sophomore wide receiver Adam Judnich (College of the Desert/La Quinta) and Harvard freshman cornerback Tola Omilana (Xavier Prep).


Mo Barragan, Western New Mexico, College of the Desert/Palm Springs: The backup sophomore offensive lineman didn’t play in a 41-23 loss to Chadron State on Saturday.

Other former high school players who are on Division II teams include New Mexico Highlands redshirt freshman wide receiver Dominic Houghton (Shadow Hills).


David Adams, Simpson College, Cathedral City: The starting senior defensive tackle had two tackles in a 45-40 loss to Dubuque on Saturday.

Domonic De La Riva, John Carroll University, Xavier Prep: The backup sophomore running back rushed for 16 yards on six carries and caught one pass for 1 yard in a 34-7 victory over Wilmington on Saturday.

Kevin Gilbert, Greenville College, Indio: The starting senior nose tackle recorded five tackles, including one sack, and forced a fumble in a 34-22 victory over Westminster on Saturday.

Anthony Osuna, Greenville College, Desert Hot Springs: The starting senior outside linebacker had four tackles in a 34-22 victory over Westminster on Saturday.

David Rafter, Lake Forest University, Palm Desert: The backup freshman wide receiver caught two passes for 23 yards in a 17-7 victory over Ripon on Saturday.

Charles Scicli, Whittier College, San Jose State/Palm Desert: The starting senior linebacker had 14 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in a 62-38 loss to Cal Lutheran on Saturday.

Josh Sonico, University of Puget Sound, Cathedral City: The freshman kicker did not play in a 41-14 loss to Pacific Lutheran on Saturday.

Other former high school players on Division III teams include Whittier freshman defensive back Antonio Desmarais (Desert Hot Springs).


Mike Karls, Midland University, Palm Springs: The starting junior quarterback completed 9 of 22 passes for 24 yards and rushed for minus-4 yards on 12 carries in a 23-14 loss to Concordia on Saturday.

Other former high school players on NAIA teams include St. Francis (Ill.) redshirt freshman running back Ryan Greer (Desert Hot Springs).
